From the aspect of contemporary architecture, Sauska Winery is the most significant one among the renowned wineries of the Villány Wine Region. The building, exquisitely inserted into nature, harmonizes wonderfully with the Mediterranean atmosphere of Villány with its massing and the materials used, while its design is characterized by elegant precision.
A considerable part of the winery was built in 2007 within a relatively short time. This is when the tank fermentation space, the cellar for wooden casks, the bottling plant, the warehouses and the offices were constructed. After that, continuous technological development followed as well as the interior design and the realization of the tasting space with the belonging large terrace. An important objective was to realize an optimal processing capacity matching the size of the estate in a manner not forcing us to make any compromise as far as choosing the time of harvest, storage, cask and tank ageing are concerned, in order to ensure quality.
As a result, a winery capable of producing 4,000 hectolitres of wine a year was realized based on the installation of world class technology equipment. The cellar suitable for storing 1,500 wooden casks with 225-litre capacity each is just fascinating. The tanks can be heated or cooled as a whole or in part, and in order to increase the efficiency of malic acid decomposition, the wooden cask cellar can be heated as well.
